ANNOUNCING CROSSFIT ORANGE COUNTY'S NOVEMBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH- ERNIE MYERS!!!
A CrossFit Orange County Member is going to be chosen each month to represent our gym! This special athlete will represent the with hard work in the gym in the quest for contantly furthering their fitness, strength, and always working on their weaknesses. Participating as an active participant in our community is critical for all of our success!! Ernie is so very consistant with his workouts. He shows up approx 4 times per week and knows his limits and is not intimidated or frustrated with scaling the work loads. This is truly the key to success! Consistancy and scaling when necessary with the goal to be stronger and more fit tomorrow than today.
Here is a note that Ernie wanted to be included in this article:
Starting Crossfit Orange County over 18 months ago at the tender age of 64 was quite intimidating. The warmups alone in the on-ramp classes left me gasping for breath. Jeff soon taught me a Crossfit phrase, ‘our warmups are your workout’. Moving from on-ramp to the regular classes proved no less challenging. Eventually I came to realize the hardest part was walking in the door. The rest is just work.
All of the CFOC coaches and members have been very supportive and helped keep me on track. All those fist bumps, high fives and encouragement mean a lot. I may not be able to lift as much or finish as fast as those half my age but I work as hard as anyone. I’m pitiful compared to Johnny but I often kid him that I’m catching up. Heck, I even won a game of Rowling the other day. What a hoot that was.
Since starting at CFOC I’ve lost over 25 pounds, my clothes fit better and I’m getting stronger. I even completed another marathon. When your friends and family start noticing, you know you are on the right track. Plus, it’s rejuvenating for someone my age to be around, let alone accepted by, younger people. My doctor summed it up very clearly for me. We were discussing the idea that I’m in pretty good shape for a 65 year old. His opinion; “Yes, you are, but you could be better.” That’s what I strive for at every work out. That’s why you will generally find me there 4 or 5 days a week.
Working with CFOC has been one of the best things I’ve done for my physical and mental well being. Being selected as the first member of the month is a very unexpected honor. Thanks Robin and Jeff for the opportunities and the recognition. Thanks to all for making CFOC someplace I enjoy coming back to.
Keep up the good work Ernie! You definately lead by example!!
